Touring Philly with Philadelphia Wedding Photographers | Travel Tuesday
We had the great fortune of getting to photograph a wedding just outside of Philadelphia on Memorial Day. Whenever we schedule a destination wedding we always like to get in a little sight seeing after we are done working - so when the opportunity arose to take a day tour of Philly we were game! I'm pretty sure we hit all of the tourist destinations along with some recommendations from the previous days wedding caterers on where to get Philly Cheesesteaks. Pro tip: When a caterer recommends where to go get tasty food, you go!
We started our adventure with a trip through the Eastern State Penitentiary. It was beyond fun to get to roam the halls of America's 1st Penitentiary along with some eye opening facts about our jail system in the US. I found all the facts very interesting. Especially that this prison held men, women, and juveniles and each room seemed "well appointed" from the preconceived notions I had about what it would look like. Obviously the cells are now falling and crumbling - but the organization that runs the facility for tours has taken the time to renovate parts of the prison to what it would have looked like when it was first build. Among the cells, in the center of the prison is the famous cell of Al Capone.
While the history is so amazing, it was so friggin' cool to get to wander the halls the Ghost Hunters did. I managed to take some great stock images for upcoming creepy fantasy images and tons of textures for overlays!
After the prison we headed over to Dalessandro's for some true Philly Cheesesteaks. From what I've heard since being there is that this particular Cheesesteak spot was on a famous foodie TV show - which could account for the line out the door at 3pm on a Sunday. We totally thought that the time between lunch and dinner would be perfect for a quick bite. We were wrong! It was beyond worth it though! That Cheesesteak was about the size of my arm, stuffed to the brim with cheesy-steaky goodness, and prepared so fast for the amazing crowd they had! To get here we had to drive a few minutes outside of the downtown area but it along the way we drove down some beautiful roads that lined the river. Unfortunately we didn't stop to get any photos of the area because by the time we finished our tour of the prison we were both starving! It's also why there isn't any photos of the cheesesteaks!
Taking a selfie with one of our wedding cameras? Very surprised it worked! My fave selfie yet!
To wrap up our quick tour we walked, Dean tried to run, up the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Affectionately dubbed the "Rocky Steps" on all the maps, and even our GPS, they were steep and I was in dress shoes (likely excuse!). It was a perfect view of the city on a bit of a foggy day that ended our whirlwind tour of the city.
