Backyard Wedding Photos | Camden Maine | Kelly and Ryan
Kelly and Ryan had a true, intimate, backyard wedding and it was wonderful!
They started the day getting ready with the bridal party in their oceanside hotel in Camden - with a surprise upgrade to a large suite in a cottage just off the main property! It was perfect with so many sliding doors they were able to block off the bedroom from the rest of the suite so that Ryan could hang out with his guys in front of the bedroom walk-out and Kelly could get prepped with her girls on the living room and kitchen side.
I absolutely adore Kelly's dress! Looking at it you can't even tell it was once a long dress with a large train. Kelly is a smaller girl and the described the original design, or any floor length dress, as "wearing her instead of her wearing it" so she took a leap of faith and had it altered to a perfect tea length. The dress originally came from Andrea's Bridal Boutique in Portland and they recommended a very excellent tailor who was able to make the dress fit Kelly like a glove!
The First Look
Kelly and Ryan opted for a first look in scenic Camden, to help with the jitters, but also take advantage of the gorgeous area before heading off to their backyard ceremony and reception that abutted a farm. We staged their first look right at the Camden Amphitheater - which they both adored for the beautiful stone steps and walk way over to Camden Harbor.
Once they had their quiet moments together we took some gorgeous portraits of them having a great time together walking among the steps of the amphitheater. From there we zipped across the street for formal portraits of the wedding party in front of the anchored tall ships in the harbor. It doesn't get more "Maine" than that view! One I need to drive up and appreciate more! Next sunny but not too hot day, you'll find me there.
The Ceremony & Reception
Everyone gathered on the lawn of Kelly's mother's home for their ceremony. It was something out of a fairy tale - the neighbors, which have a farm, were horse-sitting so during the ceremony there were two horses frolicking in the background. Seriously! You couldn't have planned that! The horses even came over for some backyard wedding photos!
After the sweet ceremony everyone met under the tent for a classic BBQ meal, cake cutting and then out onto the front lawn for an array of lawn games.
