Theater Wedding | Emily and Katie's Celebration Barn Theater Wedding in South Paris Maine
It was a brisk October afternoon for Emily and Katie's Celebration Barn Theater Wedding
So of course it's only appropriate that the brides accessorized their matching dresses (complete serendipity!) with flannel, blankets, and cozy warm slippers.
Dean and I met up with Katie and Emily at their wedding venue in South Paris - an adorable theater built as a barn. After meeting their families it became very clear why Emily and Katie chose to have their wedding in a theater - it seems that everyone in their family has ties to the theater. Judging by the speeches given at the reception they're all very skilled entertainers! Even Dean and I were cry-laughing during them.
Celebration Barn Theater
The theater itself is a full immersion school so there was plenty of room upstairs for both ladies and their family to stay and get ready without ever running into each other. Even though they had ample space to get prepped it was still a challenge to keep them from running into each other. Emily was helping with the planning in the main theater down to the last second before Katie arrived.
Once Emily and Katie were all ready to go, they had just one photo request of a first look without actually seeing each other. So, conquering my fear of climbing really high on ladders (why I didn't have Dean make this shot, I'll never know), I climbed a 15ft ladder so I could get on an even height with the second story of the barn where Katie and Emily were standing in their respective doors. It made for a very awesome image!
Ceremony in the Apple Orchard
For their Celebration Barn Theater Wedding, Emily and Katie chose to have their ceremony outside in the apple orchard on the massive grounds around the venue. It was a fun ceremony where they saw each other for the first time and realized that they had both chosen the exact same wedding dress! All without sharing any information about the dresses with each other. It was fun to see how each bride personalized their dress. Emily decided on a veil along with a white pashmina while Katie went with a jeweled belt.
Party in the Theater
After the ceremony everyone went to enjoy cocktail hour inside the theater, followed by a delicious BBQ dinner under the tent set up on the lawn. After dinner everyone was ushered inside to the theater where all of their wedding attendants, all siblings, made fantastically funny speeches. Theater weddings can be challenging for lighting because they're set up to spotlight the stage and everything else fades into the dark - but Dean and I loved this aspect, it made highlighting the dancing so fun. Especially during the first dance - it made it feel like it was just Emily and Katie and the whole world just faded away.
The reception went well into the night with lots of dancing and partying! I especially got excited when the DJ played Time Warp (which is much harder to do while taking photos!)
