Ryan and Kate’s wedding was 10 years in the making and it all came together perfectly. After a full year delay thanks to COVID and a rainy start to the season, Kate and Ryan were gifted the most perfect beach day to share their wedding with friends and family all gathered for their wedding at The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport.
Kate and Ryan are high school sweethearts who were in the same homeroom and played cards every day. Like all good stories, they started out as friends before they started dating, and fell for each other on their first date, which, in Kate’s words, was a complete disaster. It had just snowed, and Ryan's car stalled out in the driveway picking her up. She had to lay down sand as he tried for several minutes to back out. On their way to the fancy restaurant Kate and Ryan got completely lost and couldn't find the place. Which by this point the whole night was filled with so many ridiculous challenges, they were just laughing hysterically and pulled into the nearest place which was an Outback Steakhouse. Over a quesadilla they split, Kate and Ryan didn't stop talking for about 5 hours.
Their first date was such a success despite all the comedic errors by chance they continued to date all through college and while Ryan was in the Marines. Ryan proposed on the beach in South Carolina during a massive lightning storm that we could see over the ocean. As he proposed the sky kept lighting up purple, it was incredibly cool. So naturally a wedding by the beach was in order but thankfully, despite the heat from the day, there was no lighting!
A light breeze off the ocean kept everyone cool as the couple shared their vows on the lawn in a ceremony officiated by Kate’s Grandfather. The ceremony was filled with touching moments as Kate’s bridesmaids teared up through it and Ryan’s military buddies stood by his side. Cheers from their friends and family, and a few hotel guests on their balconies, as they sealed their vows with a kiss and processed, smiling ear to ear, back down the aisle.
From there it was game on! After spending over a year away from friends and family, this group got down on the dance floor - to the point where I thought the floor was going to cave in! Not a single person was in their seats as the couple partied away the night, ending with Shout!
