Randy and Alex's Grace Wedding | Maine Wedding Photographers
“Dance there upon the shore; What need have you to care For wind or water’s roar?” - William Butler Yeats. This is what the painted quote read along the ceiling at Bull Feeney where the couple held their rehearsal dinner and it couldn’t have applied more to their wedding day. With hurricane Dorian somewhere off the Maine coastline the day was certainly windy and during their first look at Portland Headlight the ocean was roaring!
Things I learned at Randy and Alex’s wedding - I CAN do the Timewarp while photographing and I’m pretty sure Randy and Alex are in some way my spirit animal. I’ve requested their reception playlist - it’s everything I’ve ever loved in music.
These two were so much fun to hang out with all day! Alex and her friends got ready at a really awesome AirBnB apartment right in the Old Port. We had a slight scare mid-way through the getting ready process when the fire alarm sounded but it quickly shut off and we didn’t have to evacuate! It’s always good to start the day with a bit of cardio.
While Alex was prepping at the apartment, Randy was across town at the Press Hotel with his parents. From there he jumped in the car and headed to Portland Head Light to prep for his first look with Alex. When Randy arrived at the park it was a bit windy (nothing big, just a hurricane off the coast!). So Dean went in search of a new spot for their first look that was sheltered a bit while Randy took a walk around the park to calm his nerves. We love a groom bubbling over with excitement for the day!
One of the things we know we will remember for a long time was the ceremony. Randy and Alex chose to have a Quaker ceremony. At first it sounded very intimidating to us - for the most part it’s a silent ceremony that’s not overseen by an officiant, but rather the couple marries themselves. But I have to admit, it might have been one of our very favorite ceremonies to date! During the silent portion of the ceremony, guests got up and expressed their wishes for the couple, some shared funny stories and others, heart felt memories. It was really something to witness!
After the ceremony Alex and Randy headed off to Grace for an amazing meal and dancing the night away with friends and family (to one of the best soundtracks yet!). Their first dance was perfectly choreographed with lots of spins and a few lifts/tricks!
