Frequently Asked Questions | Maine Wedding Photographers and Videographers

Who will be our photographer?

You will always get the principle photographers - Dean or Brittany. We are not one of those bigger companies that promises you that we “vet every photographer and select the perfect one for your day”. (If I’m being 100% honest, we see those companies and approached by some less than a month out from the wedding date looking to book a lead photographer because when they booked their clients, they didn’t have anyone lined up!) Brittany has been at the helm of the company for 12 years now and Dean joined in a few years later and quickly trained up to be the amazing photographer he is today!
Brittany is the one that handles all client communications, timelines, etc. If you have a question - Brittany is your go-to!

Who will be our videographer?

Great question! If you’ve heard on our social media posts/Insta stories - we just recently hired and are training up an amazing videographer to join our team. Dean has been the lead video guy for our 1 photo/1 video collections for the last 4 years. In recent years we’ve been primarily taking on smaller, elopement style weddings for photo and video but now we are moving into covering full weddings for video. Which means we need all hands on deck and it was time to increase to three adventurous souls! Sarah is our new addition! She went to college for film (Keene State - Brittany’s alma mater!) and has been working with Scarborough Downs capturing horse racing. And if there’s anything nearly as fast paced as a wedding day, it’s horse racing! She’s doing amazing at the weddings she’s been training on so far and killed it at a styled shoot we just did!

How Far Out Should We Book You?

As soon as you know you want us as your photographers/videographers. With all the COVID reschedules to 2021 and 2022 we can’t hold dates for couples without a signed contract and paid retainer. Right now we are booking 1-2 years in advance and have nearly filled our next year’s season before this one even started.

How much time should we book you for?

On average our weddings last anywhere from 6 hours to 10 hours depending on if you’re doing a first look, traveling between locations, etc. We do cover elopements and small weddings during the weekdays as well that are an average of 2-3 hours and then those extra long days that can be upwards of 14-16 hours!

We have several different packages with different amounts of coverage and varying from 1 to 2 photographers with options for video. The reason we don’t send the pricing guide immediately when you reach out is we like to chat and get a feel for your day. Early in our career we definitely found that sometimes the clients hired us for probably a bit longer than they really needed us for - or hired 2 photographers when they didn’t need us. I (Brittany) am the worst sales person! The last thing I want to do is make a couple feel pressured into hiring us for more coverage than they need.

Do we really need a second shooter?

My answer is always YES! Working with a second photographer always gives you move coverage and more angles throughout the day. Especially if you’re not opting for a first look or getting ready in two different locations. Our main goal on your wedding day is to not make you feel rushed or rushing from one event to another. Having a 2nd shooter ensures that your getting ready, you don’t have to wait/rush to get ready in order for your 1 photographer to cover your getting ready and then your spouse. Also, if you’re not having a first look, we will be doing all of your formal family portraits and wedding party portraits during your cocktail hour. During that cocktail hour time Brittany is covering your formals while Dean is covering your cocktail hour, guests, informal groupings with family and friends, etc.

What if it rains?

One of the things we work on early in your wedding planning process is rain backups. If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony, what will happen if it rains? This is something you’ll need to address with your venue. Do they have an inside option? Will you need to bring a tent?

When it comes to photos, we are game for whatever the weather dishes out - as long as you are!

How do you save our images?

Dean and I both shoot with two cameras and those two cameras shoot to two redundant memory cards - for photo and video. Once we get home from your wedding everything is backed on our computer hard drive, desktop external drive and then two more drives. One of the drives stays in our fireproof/waterproof safe and the other is off-site. At the end of the day we put one of the sets of cards away and we don’t use them again until the files from your wedding are delivered to you!

What happens if you get in a car accident and can’t make it?

Let’s hope this never happens but we all know accidents can happen. We belong to a network of fabulous photographers and videographers who can help out at any time. I’m very confident that if anything were to happen we were in an accident and couldn’t make it, or were just going to be late, we’d be able to get a colleague to cover for us. We’ve done this for other photographers when they’ve had emergencies pop up. Of course our goal is to be there! The only way we won’t be is if there’s some immediate emergency/accident.
