Melissa and Ray's Grace Wedding in Portland Maine
"She's crazy, but in a good way." - Ray when asked by his friends what first interested him in Melissa
The night that Ray met Melissa, they both were getting ready for a night out in the same bathroom. Melissa fell backwards and landed in the tub while putting in her contacts. She just laughed and laughed. And I’m pretty sure they’re both just been laughing and smiling since. You can see it in the pictures below that they both have the most amazing smiles and laughs.
Friends have often told them that they both have “Golden Retriever Energy” and it’s quite clear that all those friends are spot on!
There’s that saying that you should find someone who looks at you the same way they look at food when it’s coming to your table at a restaurant. Well, Melissa found just that in Ray! And Ray found that in Melissa as well. There were so many times throughout the day where we caught each of them stealing a glance at the other with just such heart felt adoration. Not only that, the laughs they shared were so infectious - just creating the sneaks for this blog post I would catch myself grinning ear to ear as I edited the photos.
Rain couldn't dampen the spirits on Melissa and Ray's wedding day. The cozy atmosphere inside added an intimate touch to the celebration, making it even more special. And as Portland Maine wedding photographers, we loved the creative challenge the rain brought. We had to think on our toes and use all of our tools to create stunning portraits of the couple using both natural light at the hotel and studio lighting in the venue for family and couples portraits.
The day started with Melissa and her bridesmaids getting ready in a suite at The Regency Hotel. Just down the hall, Ray and his groomsmen were preparing for the big day as well. Excitement filled the air as they anticipated the moments to come. Ray and his groomsmen enjoyed their time together, bonding over whiskey and toasting to the good times. Lots of laughs! Meanwhile Melissa shared some precious moments with her maid of honor and her mother before surprising her father with a big reveal.
One of the highlights of the day was when the couple had their almost 5-month-old golden retriever, Summer, join them for some portraits after their first look. Their pet sitter ensured that Summer was brought to the hotel safely, avoiding any wet or muddy paws. Summer became a part of the wedding day, capturing adorable moments that showcased the couple's love for their fur baby.
As the rain continued outside, the caterers kindly offered an alternative venue for the couple and their families to take their portraits. The flexibility and understanding of the vendors made a significant difference in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable day for everyone involved.
The ceremony itself was a touching experience, thanks to Erika, the officiant. She worked closely with the couple to create a ceremony that reflected their unique love story. Erika shared heartfelt and light-hearted stories about Melissa and Ray, making the ceremony personal and memorable for everyone present.
The groom's party had a lot of talent, and their best man, Tom, showcased his musical abilities throughout the day. He played the guitar during the ceremony, setting the perfect mood, and later switched to the grand piano in the main room for the cocktail hour. His performances added a personal touch to the wedding, making it even more memorable.
After a delicious dinner, it was time to hit the dance floor and celebrate. The energy in the room was infectious, and the couple, along with their guests, danced the night away. Laughter, joy, and love filled the space as everyone joined in the celebration of Melissa and Ray's union.
