Surprise Sunrise Proposal in Acadia National Park | John and Kaylee

Kaylee and John showed up in “Adventure More, Worry Less” tees for their surprise sunrise proposal in Acadia. I knew instantly, they’re my people! Also, they brought along their beautiful pup, Echo. As with most sessions that involve dogs, she became the star of the show! Seriously. We’ve been talking about getting a pup once our wedding season is over this year and an Australian Shepherd is what we’ve been talking about getting. After meeting Echo, I’m 100% sold.

John contacted me a few weeks ago to plan his proposal. Him and Kaylee were making the drive out from Pittsburgh for a wedding in New Hampshire. Acadia National Park only being a 4 hour drive from the wedding and their top bucket list for National Parks they decided to extend their trip a bit and make the trek up. What better place to pop the question than the gorgeous, dramatic coastline of Maine?

John picked sunrise - an ambitious goal for the summer in Maine. The sun is up before 5am which means we needed to be out in the location at 4:30. When I left my hotel at 3:30am, there was already a hint of light coming up on the horizon. In case you were wondering, there are no coffee shops open at 3:30am on the island.

But the sunrise was so worth it!

John and I went through the stresses of looking at New England weather forecasts. The proposal was on Monday morning. On Saturday morning, Monday sunrise was forecasted to be fully clouded in. By Saturday afternoon, it was “mostly” cloudy and by Sunday morning it was partly cloudy and holding. Monday morning when I woke up, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Which for sunrise means a very quick show of color before the sky turns sunshine and blue. But while I was out there waiting for them to arrive a few clouds moved in and really held onto the color of sunrise for us. On the island, sunsets and sunrises especially can be touch and go with cloud cover and fog, but when they hit - they absolutely deliver!

Since it was John and Kaylee’s first trip out to Acadia, after the proposal we traveled around the island to a bunch of iconic locations to really capture the entire island and experience for them. It was so much fun getting to know them over the 1/2 day we spent together and a treat to get to play tour guide in one of my favorite locations ever!
